Insanity

Most of us have heard this quote before - "Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results."' But how many of us have actually taken the time to consider how insane we each are on a personal level?

For example, say you have an alcohol problem and really want to quit drinking. You keep trying, and keep failing. The failing is when you decide to go hang out with friends every other weekend at the local bar. And yet you keep doing it, expecting to be able to stick with your desire to quit drinking.

Or, every time you're in a particular store... you keep spending too much money, putting yourself in financial trouble and making yourself feel guilty. And yet you keep going in that store.

Every time you're around a particular person, you just get angry... but you still hang out with that person. Every time you listen to a certain song, you get depressed.... yet you keep listening to it.

A lot of our personal problems, including much of our sinning, could be reduced if we'd take the time to realize that we keep doing the same thing over and over again... and change that behavior.

Today's Lenten sacrifice:

Give up doing the same thing over and over again when it leads you into sin.

I am not saying we will be sinless if we do this. I'm not saying we'll even fully succeed at helping our issue or sin. We are only human after all. But we definitely will not be able to even come close to succeeding if we continue doing the same actions time and again and think that this time will be different.
