None of it Makes Sense

Have you ever noticed that Christianity doesn't make sense?

Whenever something wonderful happens - God did it. Whenever life sucks - it's the world and/or Satan.

When prayers are answered how you want them to be answered - God listened to you. When prayers go unanswered - it's because "God has a plan"... or because life sucks (which means, it's the world and/or Satan's fault).

When a child is born - it's a miracle. When someone dies - it's the way life works.

When you find the love of your life and get married - it's a gift from God... a marriage done before God. When the marriage fails and you get divorced - it's because of the world and/or Satan.

If God is omnipotent, omniscient, and omnipresent... why does He not use His power to stop bad things? Why does He seem to not know (or care) what is happening? Why is He never here?

  1. You ask some very tough questions sis. People for centuries have asked the same. For me (my point of view for me only) When I find myself asking the questions or pondering the reasons I remind myself that I'm judging God based on my sense of right and/or wrong. In short I'm telling God His idea of right and wrong is so out of balance that is it downright stupid and I'm using the measuring stick of my own heart to do so. Paul said who hath known the mind of the Lord or who has been His counselor? Romans 11:34 Or who hath first given to him, and it shall be recompensed unto Him again vs. 35. Then he caps it all off with this statement in vs. 36... For of him, and through him, and to him, are all things: to whom be glory for ever. Amen. The real kicker for me is in Romans 5:8-9 Though he were a Son, yet learned he obedience by the things which he suffered; And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him.

There are going to be tons and tons of times we aren't going to have a clue whatsoever, this is where faith is being built by how much we trust the Creator to be wholly sane and fully able to meet every need whether we like His methods or not.!

    Hang in there sis~

    I'm hid with Christ!

    1. Thanks for the comment Shawn. Right now, I think God is downright stupid... and yeah, I know, bad way to think. I've already told Him that... we've had some long talks the last few days.

      God bless you, sis

  2. Brandi, like Shawn said, those are tough questions. But in life I've learned that some things that seem to be terrible in life really aren't, but because we can't see the whole picture, we only focus on what seems to be "bad" or "good" to us. Sometimes bad things happen because our own imperfect human actions have consequences. And it's not just the bad stuff that doesn't make sense. I've had many experiences in life where great things happen to me that I definitely did not expect or deserve. Through it all I've learned not to try to understand the mind of God, it makes my head hurt (I think that's what Isaiah is trying to tell us in Isa 40 & 55). But what I DO know is that whether life is great, or life is awful, God is still God, and God is still in control. He knows the entire story, and sometimes he blesses us by taking things away. I hope my ramblings sort of make sense.

    1. Shanique - thank you for the comment. And yes, your rambling makes sense :)

I agree there are times great things happen too that make us wonder what the heck God is thinking. But as you and Shawn both said - we look at things by what our limited minds can see as right/wrong... good/bad.
